Polyrhythmic Calligraphy
Expanding rhythms of writing

A 5 day workshop with Denis Brown
Level: intermediate to advanced.

Polyrhythmic Calligraphy is an innovative workshop designed for students looking to expand their writing rhythms.

It is recommended for those with prior experience in my Advanced Italic or familiarity with the Italic Rhythm to Polyrhythm video program. In this 5-day workshop, participants will explore more intricate rhythms that go beyond the traditional ones commonly found in italic calligraphy. While the 'picket fence' pattern is essential to grasp in formal scripts, this workshop will challenge students to deviate from this structure and delve into more complex polyrhythms. Unlike historical western calligraphy, , this workshop draws inspiration from cursive scripts in Arabic and oriental traditions. By integrating these diverse influences, participants will uncover a plethora of creative possibilities in their calligraphic practice.
