I created the above manuscript book as a personal exploration of the concepts discussed in this  workshop.

Experimental Calligraphy Composition

A two or three day Workshop with Denis Brown
Intermediate to Advanced level
Note that this module is also part of a larger 5-day class on Rhythm & Eurhythmics.

Calligraphic layouts are often used to simply fill space. However, under Denis' guidance, we'll learn how to transform layouts into compositionally active spaces by strategically dividing the picture plane with lines of writing. The exercises focus on rhythmic repetition and paraphrasing of calligraphic elements, ultimately guiding us from initial thumbnail sketches to creating dynamic compositions.
