This workshop will focus on the art of planning colour schemes to enhance your calligraphy pieces. Gain valuable insights and tips on creating vibrant colour wash backgrounds for your calligraphy work and delve into colour theory to boost your confidence in using colour effectively. Participants will have the opportunity to work on projects that showcase the importance of colour in calligraphy.

Tools and materials required

Broad-edged dip pens, specifically Brause "Bandzug" nibs in various sizes, along with a suitable pen-holder. Paintbrushes for mixing paint and loading pens,, a large flat nylon paintbrush, and powdered gum sandarac or kolophonium powder are recommended. Gouache paints in primary colours, black and white will be essential for creating vibrant colours in your calligraphy work. Other materials to bring include palettes for paint mixing, gummed paper tape c. 4 cm wise, a sturdy board such as 12mm plywood or MDF at least 33 x 47 cm, ruler, eraser, practice paper in A3 size or 11" x 17", coloured paper like Canson Mi-Tientes, smooth aquarelle paper, craft knife, water jar, sponge, and paper towels. Optional items like a smartphone with a camera can be helpful for documenting demonstrations and aiding in practice sessions.
