Advanced Italic
Join us for a two to five-day calligraphy workshop led by Denis Brown.
This workshop is designed for intermediate to advanced level calligraphers.
Denis will teach his main style of italic script, emphasising dynamic gestural pen manipulations to enhance stroke fluency. Participants will engage in detailed analysis of structural rhythm, also learning how to incorporate pen flicks and quick strokes to further develop their fluency. By the end of the workshop, students will have explored new dynamics of calligraphy that can be incorporated into their practice outside of the class.
Student supplies required
Square edged dip-pens (Brause size 3mm & 4mm recommended, along with students' preferred brands) - Finely powdered gum sandarac - Ink - Ruler - Pencils - Pad of practice paper (A3 size or larger) - Gouache - Mixing and loading brushes
